Knowledge of Health Care Providers of a Tertiary Hospital Regarding Post-Operative Infection

Background: Infection is a very common post-operative complication. Now day the knowledge about infection among healthcare provider essential. The study was aimed to determine health care regarding management of in postoperative ward. Methods: cross-sectional conducted 90 respondents (60 doctors, 50 nurses & 40 supporting staff) from January 2015 December Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. A semi structured questionnaire used obtain socio-demographic data related information through face interview. In-depth interviews were taken director DMCH, head department surgery nurse in-charge ward for qualitative data. After collection complied, summarized analyzed. approved by ethical committee National institute Preventive Social Medicine. Before data, written permission selected hospital take consent respondents. Results: Among 150 respondents, 58% female with 26-30 years age group. Most doctors post-graduate diploma nursing. had infections- 83.3% told bacterial as type, 80% devices source 94% diabetes risk factor. Both causes mode transmission (90% 93.2% unsterile instrument), complication due (100% sepsis 86.7% wound become red swelling), prevention &92% proper sterilization instrument). Doctors (95% (74%) known control guideline and. (47.5%) (68%) received training staff they knew their colleague. 82.5% staffs sterilization. Conclusion: This finding great impact it will be beneficial all HCW receive formal periodic refresher trainings. JOPSOM 2021; 40(1): 43-50
